The Joys of Embracing Spring - An April Bucket List

It is finally beginning to warm into the beauty of spring. April is a month of renewal and the perfect mix of crisp mornings and sun-kissed afternoons. As my little corner of the world wakes up from winter, it’s the ideal time to embrace the season with fresh experiences, outdoor adventures, and little moments of joy. This April bucket list is filled with ideas that I'm looking forward to to make the most of the month. Join me in embracing the joys I'm planning to cultivate over the next couple of weeks!

Did you know you can use eggshells as seed starters? Great Easter egg repurposing option!

April - the month of showers to bring forth flowers

  1. April Fools Day - You may hate it, love it, or ignore it - I love it! Last year I collected empty boxes and filled our front porch to convince everyone I maxed the credit card on Amazon. This year, Husband and I are emptying our daughter's room while she's away and we plan to act like we don't know what she's talking about when she notices...lol. If you need some fool's inspiration or just a good laugh, click here.

  2. Spring craft - Butterflies may still be a month away from gracing our skies, but this super sweet craft will be a welcome gift to those little lovelies when they arrive.

  3. Refreshing yoga - The season change promises newness and blooming energy as the Earth is refreshing into spring. Join in and try this full-body refresh yoga flow from my go-to and favorite yoga YouTuber, Yoga by Bird.

  4. Thrift it - Head to your local thrift shop for some new-to-you spring duds - skirts, dresses, and shorts galore! We may not be able to wear them for another month or two here in northern Minnesota, but it will feel good to be ready when those unexpected spring breezes bring in the warmth.

  5. Open the windows & crank some music - Welcome in the spring breeze and soak up that freshness while blasting your favorite tunes. Don't be shy about singing along. Here's my eclectic YouTube mix if you want to shake things up.

  6. Eat fresh - Learning to love salads was rough for me. I found so many veggies off-putting and unenjoyable, but I explored and taste-tested again and again until I found what I loved. Salad recipes on Pinterest for your fresh inspiration.

  7. Reserve or prep a garden patch & get seed starters going - Unfortunately for me, I do not have my own yard for gardening, but fortunately for me, community gardens are everywhere. For only $20 I enjoy a season with a raised bed full of my grown produce. An added benefit to the community garden - access to a master gardener! I recommend this opportunity if you're new to growing, just google community gardens near you - get growing!

  8. Buy, paint, and fill bird feeders - In the north, birds are beginning to migrate home in early April. Welcome them with some new beautiful feeders full of sunflower seed blends. Curious about migration? Check out this migration tracker and watch the flocks moving to and from your state.

  9. Salt-doh egg garland - It's time for some spring, and maybe some Easter decor.. Try this sweet and easy craft - Pinspiration!

  10. Spring photos in floral dress - Capture the season’s beauty with a mini photoshoot in a flowy floral dress in nature.

  11. It's National Pet Day! Celebrate your pet with a special treat or a trip to the pet store for a new toy. Finish the day with an extra long walk or a visit to the dog park.

  12. Enjoy a bonfire & fresh mocktails with friends - Gather around the fire with refreshing spring-inspired mocktails and good company.

  13. Go chasing waterfalls - Visit a state park, national park, or local waterway to enjoy the beauty of rushing water from the year's snow melt.

  14. Friendly clothing swap - Host a gathering with friends and swap gently used spring clothing for a fun, budget-friendly wardrobe refresh.

  15. Get to an art show - Explore local creativity and support artists by attending a spring art exhibition or gallery event.

  16. Visit a flower shop & create a spring centerpiece - Brighten your home with fresh flowers by designing your own stunning spring arrangement.

  17. Host a sidewalk chalk art day - Get creative with colorful chalk designs and invite friends or neighbors to join the fun.

  18. Decorate Easter eggs - Try new techniques like watercolor, tie-dye, or natural dyes to make beautiful, unique Easter eggs.

  19. Bake muffins & share with neighbors - Spread some joy by baking delicious spring-inspired muffins and gifting them to neighbors.

  20. Celebrate Easter - Whether it's a family gathering, church service, or egg hunt, enjoy the holiday in a way that’s meaningful to you.

  21. Rest - With so many opportunities to give back and reach out this month, take a day to resist social media and overstimulation and rest. Head to bed early, sleep in, and lounge around. Do what makes you feel rested and refreshed.

  22. Celebrate Earth Day - Visit the official Earth Day website for information and inspiration to celebrate and care for the Earth, today and every day.

  23. It's Banned Book Day - Get some new perspectives with these banned book reading lists. My go-to banned book recommendation is Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury. He is a poetic writer and the book theme could not be more appropriate for this day.

  24. Make seed bombs - Mix some clay and some flower seeds, form a ball, and toss it out into the dirt! This year my daughter and I purchased some pollinator seed blends and we plan to store them in the car to seed-bomb the world wherever we go.

  25. Celebrate Arbor Day - Every year my family and I purchase a couple of saplings and plant them in the forest near our home. Visit a garden center or tree nursery near you and celebrate a day for the trees. Saplings are fragile so be sure to take the advice of the gardener for the greatest tree-growing success.

  26. Pastel manicure - treat yourself.

  27. Volunteer for a beach clean - Help keep the shoreline clean by joining or organizing a community cleanup day. Every year, almost 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean. This pollution harms marine life, disrupts ecosystems, and contributes to massive garbage patches like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is now over 600,000 square miles—about twice the size of Texas! That is hard to believe.

  28. Start a hiking challenge - In our community, a local store creates a yearly hiking challenge and the winners get bragging rights and a gift card. Participating in a challenge creates a goal, which is vital to accomplishment and encourages new experiences. Search for or create a challenge near you!

  29. Picnic potluck - Invite everybody and their idea of a good picnic treat and meet up to enjoy the spread on a picnic blanket in the park, at the beach, or even a backyard.

  30. Volunteer to help someone with their spring cleaning - Offer a helping hand to a friend, neighbor, or community member who could use some extra support with their seasonal refresh.

Spring is the perfect time to reconnect with nature and enjoy simple joys with loved ones. Whether you're planting a garden, exploring a state park, or celebrating Earth Day with a meaningful act, each moment adds to the season’s beauty. So, grab your pastels, pack a picnic, and make this spring unforgettable!
